LCD Soundsystem in Saint Paul
James Murphy, a folk hero to guys like me, headlined the Roy Wilkins Auditorium, a cavernous venue that can create a lost intimacy under poorly planned circumstances. Note for short people: Consider sitting upstairs to actually see the show as well as hear it. With a standing-room main floor and a light show perfectly attuned to the driving dance beats that define KYBBA, this was the strongest showing of a band at the Roy I've seen in several visits. Better than The Pharcyde / 311 / Cypress Hill ten years later, and even better than hometown boys, The Replacements. But with a standing-room main floor and a light show perfectly attuned to the driving dance beats that define KYBBA, this was the strongest showing of a band at the Roy I've seen in several visits. Better than my first ever unsupervised show, Howard Jones. I love it that he DJed at First Avenue afterwards.
